What is a Chronometer?

A chronometer, commonly known as a stopwatch, is a timepiece designed to measure the amount of time that elapses between its activation and deactivation. Unlike a standard clock which tells the current time of day, a chronometer counts upwards from zero to measure duration with high precision, often down to milliseconds.

How to Use This Tool

This online stopwatch runs entirely in your browser, ensuring immediate response times without server latency.

  • Start/Stop: Press the large Play button to begin counting. Press Pause to halt the timer without resetting the value.
  • Lap: Press the Flag button while the timer is running to record a split time (lap). This is useful for tracking multiple runners or task segments.
  • Reset: Press the Reset button to clear the time and all recorded laps, returning the counter to 00:00:00.

Common Use Cases

  • Sports & Fitness: Measure sprint times, plank duration, or rest intervals between gym sets.
  • Productivity: Use the Pomodoro technique or track how long specific tasks take to complete.
  • Cooking: Precisely time brewing coffee, steeping tea, or boiling eggs.
  • Science & Education: Measure reaction times or physics experiments in the classroom.

Accuracy Note

This tool uses your browser's internal clock and high-performance timing APIs to calculate the elapsed duration. It automatically corrects for any drift that might occur due to system lag, ensuring that the displayed time remains accurate even over long periods.
